These are various tactics for improving your driving in Diddy Kong Racing
Cart Tactics
"A" Tapping
Basically, for cart driving, you wanna tap the A button as fast as you can while driving. thats really all there is to it. give it a shot, see how fast you can go! Also, if you are not good at tapping and driving at the same time, you can use an autofire controller, such as a shark pad pro.
Sliding
sliding is an important way to keep your speed up, and you'll want to do it as often as possible. there's no real way to slide on straights without losing time, but its necessary to do it around every turn to get faster times. press and hold the R button to slide after turning left or right.

Hover Tactics
"A" Rhythmic Tapping
A little more difficult than with the Cart. It involved rapid tapping of the "A" button... but only after achieving maximum speed. You want to keep an eye on your speed guage!
Also, if you are very good at doing multiple things, you can gain max speed by flipping on autofire on "A" when you reach maximum speed.
If you turn too rapidly and slow down any, you will want to stop autotapping, because you will slow down to a stop.
Above all, just practice the method

Snaking
Snaking is an apt name for this technique, cuz you basically do what a snake does, and weave back and forth. experiment with how wide or narrow you have to go, but try to stay on as straight of a line as you can. Make sure that, when you are turning, you are holding "R" to get maximum speed out of your snaking.
Plane Tactics

Barrel Rolling
A barrel roll can only be done in plane. Either hold left or right on the control-stick while pressing the "R"-button two times. When you hold left, then you do a left barrel roll. When you hold right, you do a right barrel roll. This means that you do a barrel roll to the left or right side. You can get really fast speeds with a barrel roll, when you release the "A"-button while you do a barrel roll. But it's hard to control your vehicle during a barrel roll, so usually it's only used on straights.
