Switches, switches all over the place. Whether they change the directions of moving gears, move a beam for you to walk on, or trigger a claw to come down and pick you up, there's no shortage of them--and they count as an all-important x1 lock-on, worth 1 second. It takes less than 1 second to fire a shot, making it possible to just stand by a switch and press B thousands of times, driving up the clock possibly all the way to the limit of 100 minutes if you feel like pressing B that much. All that's left to do after the last switch is get through the rest of the stage and defeating the boss while losing as little time as possible (plenty of enemy lock-on groups allow you to keep the time high, including a bunch of 8x formations in the final descent).
