Launch Silo #4

Silo (part i of mission 3: Kirghzistan) is the sixth level in GoldenEye 007. The formal name for this level is Soviet Missile Launch Silo #4.

Agent

World Record - 1:00

Watch both cinemas. Begin in left strafe and switch to right as the first door is opening. Ignore the first guard, kill the second and switch to the Soviet. Begin firing (this gun is LOUD) as you strafe down the hall, through the open door killing another guard, and up the stairs here. Kill any guards in your way; the door should be open. Fire a few more and reload as you go around the corner. This door should also be open, so kill the guard, around, and through the next door (which, in case you haven't caught on, should also be open).

You should've gotten some more Soviet ammo during that process; reload as you're going up the stairs and around the corner. In this second silo room, go around the big console in your way to the left, then right strafe to the stairs. Up and through the open door, reload as you're going down the hall. To the right, kill the guards; you may have to open one or both doors here.

Up the stairs, reloading as you do so. Hopefully you didn't get stuck too much in that area, 'cause there's tons of guards there. Around the next corner, through the door, straight to the stairs and go right up and through (you may have to wait a bit for this door to start opening). Kill a few guards and reload shortly before reaching the next door, which you'll probably have to open. Down the corridor, another door you may have to open but does get opened sometimes. Reload right after you get through that door and fire the Soviet constantly (which you pretty much should've been doing the whole time) through the crate-infested area, up the stairs, around the corner, and to the door.

When you get close to the next door, pause and select the Camera. Hopefully (this is one of the most problematic doors), the door to the final silo room will be opening. Snap pictures frantically as you strafe to the stairs. Open the final door if it isn't already and warp through by switching to a gun. Get ahead of Ourumov and left strafe all the way to the elevator, hoping you don't get backboosted too much.

Silo can be a very frustrating level to speedrun because you can get a great run going and then something out of your control messes it up, like a guard crouching and getting in your way or a door not opening. Look down and shoot the guards that crouch as quickly as possible; good reaction is essential to getting fast times on this level. If you don't care about WR speed and just want a decent time, you can grab the keycards (particularly the last one), which will save you grief with those locked doors that don't open. But you can't get the keycards if you want a time below 1:10. Try to use lookdown in the areas with lots of guards to reduce lag; the problem with that is oftentimes you won't be able to see that guard that gets in your way. Like I said, Silo is a very frustrating level to speedrun, so be prepared.

Secret Agent

World Record - 1:08

Watch both cinemas. As soon as you get control of bond, switch to unarmed. Left strafe to the door and open it. Switch to right strafe and change to the PP7 warping the door. Shoot the guard at the top of the stairs 3 times to kill him and get his KF7, if this goes wrong, restart.

Switch to the KF7 and keep in right strafe until you hit the next door. Start shooting 6 bullets here. The first 3 should kill this guard, and the next 3 should cause the scientist to drop his keycard. After entering this room (during those shots) left strafe to the left side of the room, around the lone scientist, and pick up the two circuit boards. Switch to right and head up the stairs.

Kill the guard at the top of the stairs with 6 shots, then left strafe right to the next door. Kill this guard with 3 shots. Right strafe down the corridor to the next door, which a guard will be opening. In right strafe, switch to the PP7 to warp this door. Ignore the first guard, but shoot the guard at the top of the stairs once or twice to avoid a backboost. Turn left in right strafe, ignore any backboosts, and open the next door. Switch to the KF7 to warp this door, and upon entering the room, turn right, then left, all while collecting the circuit board, shoot 6 shots, and make your way up the stairs.

At the top of the stairs, shoot 6 bullets to get by these guards, then left strafe right, shooting another guard in your way. Hopefully the next two doors in and out of this catwalk are open. Shoot as many times as needed to get through the catwalk, but restart if you encounter a significant stuck. Hold off shooting after geting through the guards briefly, but start again as you round the next corner in right strafe. Continue shooting until you reach the next door down this hall. Watch the timer at the bottom of the screen here. If this door is open at 6:53:XX, then you have a shot at the world record. If it is not open at this time, then you do not. Restart if you got here too slow.

In this room, immediately head right and kill the scientist here for the DAT. Then go left, between the stairs and the rocket. Once you get near the console here, do a 180 degree turn picking up the circuit board here. Now go up the stairs killing one or two guards here. Exiting this room, left strafe right, ignoring guards here. Open the first door, and switch back to PP7, warping this door. Shoot the guard here once and hope you hit him in the head or are lucky enough to slide by him. Open the next door, get into right strafe, and switch to KF7 to make this warp. Zig zag through the silver crate area here, hoping not to get backboosted. Round the corner in right strafe and pause immediately after passing the first 3 guards here. Hope to get boosted forwards. Select the camera and unpause. While entering the door at the end of this hall, take a picture of the satellite. Press A quickly to warp this guard here if he was in the way. Left strafe around the satellite and then get into right to go up the stairs. Open the door and switch to unarmed to warp this door. Stay in right strafe and go left, then right through the next catwalk. Now switch to left and make the right turns to the lift. Open the lift door and press A to warp into the door to end the level.

00 Agent

World Record - 1:21

Oh, boy. In addition to grabbing the four circuit boards and the DAT, you now need to throw a Plastique in each of the four silo rooms. Get yourself in a safe place (I go halfway up the stairs that lead to the exit of each room), pause, and throw the Plastique anywhere in each silo room.

And surviving is much more difficult on 00 Agent than on Secret Agent. There's no Body Armor in the satellite room; the only one available is to the left after the third silo room, and that's only half armor. Kill guards quickly and hope for lots of luck.

LTK

Silo is one of the more challenging levels on the LTK mode. There are many guards in the level and you only have 8:35 before the entire level explodes. Therefore, you can't really play this level super-safe in hope for a completion. The current World Record is considered to be one of the strongest in Goldeneye's LTK mode.

DLTK

This level was considered to be humanly impossible for a very long period of time. It remains the hardest DLTK level by far and was the last level to be beaten. If it wasn't for the timer, this level would still be quite hard to beat, although not as difficult as it currently is. Only one player has ever beaten Silo on DLTK, and many people think that's one too many. If you really want to speedrun this level/get a completion, be prepared to sacrifice hundreds of hours. If grenades were more common on Silo, the level would be slightly easier. However, guards pulling enough grenades is very rare and you will most likely need three or more nades to kill many guards at the same time.
