Metroid is an Action/Platformer released in August of 1986 by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The series continued with Super Metroid.

Speed Runs
The Speed Demos Archive hosts Metroid competition. The current proven World Record for a complete-game Metroid speedrun is 18 minutes and 35 seconds, achieved by Blake "Spider-Waffle" Piepho on August 27th, 2005. The fastest run beating both bosses is 28 minutes and 2 seconds, by Robert "MyCatSucks" McLeod. The best 100% run WR is held by Damien "Dragondarch" Moody, who beat the game in 52 minutes and 23 seconds on March 10th of 2006.
